ROBOTS TO THE RESCUE!!!

This May half-term, discover how robots help the 999 services save lives.
From bomb-disposal robots to search-and-rescue technology, robots are used by 999 crews to enter places that are too dangerous for people. During the holidays, we will have lots of hands-on activities exploring these incredible machines.
Children can design and build their own paper cup rescue robot, take on the robot-driving challenge, and try moving and lifting objects robot-style, just like the robotic arms used by our robot.
Follow our robot trail around the museum and see if you can find all the different parts that make a rescue robot work. Learn amazing facts about real emergency robots, and see our bomb disposal robot on display as you explore the museum.

Have you ever wondered how we move some of the more unusual objects around the museum?
In time for this May Half Term holiday, we’ve fully brought out our former Police Robot in all its glory, ready for visitors to see and learn about how these incredible machines are a vital part of our emergency services.
Well, moving it from the ground floor, all folded away, up into the first-floor events space… we simply drove it.
After many years of retirement and storage, a little TLC brought this fascinating machine back to life and into prime position for visitors to explore this coming week.
